My name is Rosemary. I began painting in oils many years ago when my parents bought me an oil painting set but have more recently had a go at water colours which not surprisingly I find much more difficult although I enjoy both. Like most amateur artists I am a realist painter mostly in landscape but am particularly drawn to contrast in painting and the effect of light and shadow and would like to learn to be more experimental

Timberyard, Hardanger Fjiord

This is based on a photograph I took in Norway in 1964 when I went youth hostelling there with some friends. It started off as a wet in wet but ended up in my conventional style!

Galilee hills from Ginosar

I only used four colours plus white and also used a more wet in wet approach by painting a background and then building on top of it. I did let it dry a bit in between but it only took three days instead of much longer. It is based on a photo I took from the kibbutz at Ginosar which we stayed in for a couple of nights. It was right by the lake and it was fantastic!
